We use the limited area model WRF-Chem for the daily forecast of mineral dust transport in the atmosphere. The model is set up with a 12×12 km grid space and initial and boundary conditions are from the NCEP Global Forecasting System (GFS). The emission of dust is computed with the Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA) scheme (Jones et al., 2012). The above configuration has been successfully used in earlier studies over the region of interest (e.g., Solomos et al., 2018; Papagiannopoulos et al., 2020; Kokkalis et al., 2021)
